Glen
Oak Produces Volumes of 18'-Long Skirt Boards
Montello, Wisconsin
July 12, 2005:
Glen Oak Lumber & Milling now produces volumes of 18'-long
veneered boards in oak, maple and cherry. The extra-long 1"
x 12" boards are ideal for skirt boards or stair stringers,
false ceiling beams, or any application where installation
of long, uniform boards without a splice is desired.
Development of these 18'-long Engineered Solutions was driven
by inquiries from Glen Oak customers whose builders are designing
and constructing two-story homes with higher ceilings and
additional stairs. Glen Oak changed three machining centers
in its Wisconsin Mill#1 in order to produce the 18'-long boards
to meet builders' needs. Veneered boards in 16'-lengths are
also still produced at the hardwood lumber & millwork
manufacturer's Montello, Wis. facilities.
The core species of each extra-long board matches its veneer.
These boards' finger-jointed, edge-glued cores are superior
to natural lumber-they won't cup, bow or twist. Unique to
Glen Oak's veneered boards is the fact that a finger-joint
veneer is used on both faces. This high-quality two-face finger-joint
veneer results in boards with two good sides that are very
uniform in color-piece after piece.
"Buying veneered boards is the only way to get quantities
of long boards, especially in maple or cherry," observes
Glen Oak Salesman Dick Thompson. "Natural 16'-boards
are hard to come by and natural 18'-boards are impossible.
I have a customer who buys half-a truckload of our oak veneered
boards at the time," says Thompson, "and, with Glen
Oak, mixed truckloads are always an option."
Glen Oak's 1" x 12" 18'-long veneered boards are
packaged in unit quantities of 24 pieces; 1" x 10"
board units contain 25 pieces. Price advantages are realized
when buying three or more units at a time and the buyer may
indicate a different species for each unit in the order.
