June 19, 2003: Glen Oak Lumber & Milling has made it easier for builders to address one of the challenges associated with the architectural windows popular in today's home designs. Attention-getting windows like ovals, circles and half-circles require window coverings capable of providing privacy, light control and a look as special as the accent windows themselves. By purchasing the assets of specialty-shape shutter manufacturer North American Sunburst Corp. of Naples, Florida, and serving as the emerging entity's managing partner, Glen Oak has significantly impacted the North American Sunburst™ brand and the specialty shutter products category as a whole.

Using proprietary CNC manufacturing technology, North American Sunburst creates radius and angled plantation-style shutters in any shape and size—automatically and precisely producing seven custom-made specialty shutters in the time it takes others to produce a single shutter by hand. With Glen Oak's financial, operational and marketing input, North American Sunburst has been able to increase its production capacity ten-fold in a single shift, and effectively serve a nationwide customer base, in a single year. Additional improvements are in process.

Likewise, the shutter industry experts at North American Sunburst (including creator and brand manager Ted Morse) have considerably shortened Glen Oak's learning curve in the window fashions category of building material products. As a result, the large millwork manufacturer has successfully parlayed its success at finger-jointing, moulding and priming interior trim, into producing and selling superior shutter parts. Glen Oak's Arrow-Straight F.J.® shutter components quickly gained acceptance from plantation shutter manufacturers and fabricators. Produced at Glen Oak's poplar plant in Somerset, KY, the shutter parts are distributed from multiple facilities throughout the U.S., including a new facility shared with North American Sunburst in Naples, Florida.
