Moulder
Donation Funds Training School
The quality of our nations manufactured wood products
will continue to improve as increasing numbers of profile
grinding operators, moulder operators and machinery maintenance
technicians build their knowledge and skill. Continued training
for these tradesmen is now assured, since The Grindermans
Association, an international moulder and grinder training
organization, cashed in on the second largest donation in
its schools history.
A Diehl DM-126 12" moulder, used for high-speed production
of structural timbers and mouldings, was donated to the training
school by Glen Oak Lumber & Milling. The Grindermans
Association was unable to use the big machine in its training
facility, so they sold it, generating a whopping $148,500
for the school.
"(Glen Oaks donation) allows the school to survive
without any additional funding for a year," remarks The
Grindermans Association Founder Dave Rankin. "It
allows us to not seek any outside funding from government
sources," which, he proudly explains, helps the school
remain independent.
"Ours is the only generic training school of its type
in the world," Rankin adds. "We teach people how
to run machines in general, regardless of the make."
Currently, the school utilizes seven grinders of five different
makes, and four moulders made by three different manufacturers.
Machine operators and maintenance technicians are sent to
the school for training by their manufacturer/employers. By
training in small groups of six or less, over a three-day
period, the schools students receive lots of hands-on
experience.
