Locals Build Long-Term Careers with Glen Oak Lumber & Milling (continued)

Another employee who is pleased to have found a home at Glen Oak is Maintenance Manager Dan Pfeiffer. An experienced electrician and factory maintenance supervisor, Pfeiffer began a new career with Glen Oak last year at age 55. He had devoted the preceding 25 years of his career to Tecumseh Products Company, until the firm’s Somerset compressor plant closed down, throwing Pfeiffer and 1,000 other employees back into the job market.

When Pfeiffer’s resume came across the desk of John Tramburg, Glen Oak’s corporate maintenance manager, Tramburg was impressed. “His resume was so strong, plus, I saw he was already a career employee where he came from. That type of stability told me a lot; I knew he would be the guy.”

“Since he’s been at Glen Oak he has successfully brought maintenance and production together and has hand-selected much of his maintenance crew,” adds Tramburg. Pfeiffer oversees a crew of five—three of whom worked with him at Tecumseh.

“I’m very appreciative that Glen Oak gave me an opportunity,” says Pfeiffer. “I am very happy and wish I could have started with Glen Oak when they started here in ’95 … I like the way it is here at Glen Oak: if you work hard you know you can earn more money and move on up.”

With the company currently undertaking its fourth major Somerset facilities expansion since its inception, Glen Oak managers are eager to hire more exceptional people who want to succeed in a growing business. “Glen Oak’s running wide-open,“ points out Ingram, “who knows where it can go.”

Thirty new employees will be hired between now and August, particularly general laborers, machine operators and supervisors. “To be successful here, you don’t have to come with a degree,” stresses Gray, “you have to have aptitude, motivation, a good work ethic, and be passionate about quality.”

Glen Oak Founder and CEO Tom Talbot concurs. “We need more good people to help us grow and expand,” Talbot concludes. “If you have the ability, the where-with-all and the desire, there’s all kinds of opportunity at Glen Oak.”
