Glen
Oak Adds a Third Paint-Prime Line to its Priming Facility
in Somerset, Kentucky
Somerset, Kentucky
October 25, 2004:
Glen Oak Lumber & Milling has added a third custom-built
prime line to its finger-joint poplar production plants in
Somerset, Kentucky. With all three of its prime lines running
in concert, Glen Oak's Kentucky operation can now prime 50
miles of mouldings, boards, jambs and/or shutter parts per
day, in its current configuration.
Glen Oak invested $2 million in the development of its newest
prime line, the rebuilding of two existing lines and construction
of a new 50,000 square foot facility dedicated to paint priming-all
at Glen Oak's 24-acre manufacturing campus in Somerset's Lake
Cumberland Commerce Complex. "We've made this financial
investment because of our commitment to the millwork and shutter
industries," says Glen Oak CEO Tom Talbot. "Glen
Oak has been a leader in paint-priming wood products since
1996 when we introduced Prime Poplar mouldings, boards and
jambs," Talbot adds. "Continuous improvement and
product development are hallmarks of our firm; it's our duty
to change and raise the standards in the marketplace."
At Glen Oak, mouldings, boards and jambs are thoroughly coated
with primer, and then pre-heated, evenly dried with infrared
technology, sanded and buffed-all on long, continuous lines.
Each of the three lines is designed to expertly handle its
product. "The prime line for jambs and boards is beefed
up to do heavy duty applications and coat up to 12" widths,"
explains Priming Plant Manager Lee Ingram, "while the
shutter components require their own special treatment."
All of Glen Oak's primed products are thoroughly sanded and
buffed before packing for distribution. A covered loading
dock attached to the priming facility provides ample space
for trucks and for loading large quantities of high-quality
primed poplar products in a weather-protected environment.
