Extra-long
handrail produced by Glen Oak
Montello,
Wisconsin
July 10, 2006:
Glen Oak Lumber & Milling produces
18'-long handrail in oak, poplar and select white maple. The
extra-long handrail works with long stair runs necessitated
by the 9- and 10-foot ceilings popular in new home construction.
Glen Oak's 18' handrail is manufactured and stocked in a variety
of options. Solid wood, edge-glued finger-jointed w ood,
and veneered wood-core handrail products are all available
in the company's Acorn Oak , Prime Poplar and Red Leaf Maple
product lines. Shorter lengths are also in stock.
The extra-long handrail matches the 18-foot skirt board Glen
Oak produces in each species. The 1" x 12" x 18'
veneered boards used for stair stringers are ideal for any
application where installation of long, uniform boards without
a splice is desired. The veneered products feature finger-jointed,
edge-glued cores that won't cup, bow or twist-in species that
match the veneer. Glen Oak program buyers can receive these
extra-long skirt boards and handrails on the same truck, along
with their S4S, mouldings, and jambs.
Development of these 18'-long Engineered Solutions was inspired
by inquiries from Glen Oak customers whose builders are designing
and constructing many multi-story homes with higher ceilings
and longer stair runs. To produce enough of these 18'-long
products to meet builders' needs, Glen Oak changed three machining
centers in one of its Montello, Wisconsin mills earlier this
year.
